About Amy - Landscape Designer & Plant Expert
Hi, I'm Amy, a landscape designer and plant expert. I help home gardeners design beautiful outdoor gardens, and I started this website as a way to share my passion for planting design. My 12+ years of working in the landscaping industry have given me insight into what home gardeners and plant enthusiasts truly need, and I understand the frustration of choosing plants that don't thrive and the joy when your design vision finally comes together. My aim is to offer you garden design ideas, landscape design inspiration, and practical gardening tips and information for the green spaces in your life. 🪴
I am proud to offer you my own articles, designs, content, and ideas. I am a 100% real person sitting at my desk, drawing upon my experience as a landscape designer and writing content to help and inspire you. All while my cat Tom sits on my notes and drawings, living his best cat life. 😜
I'm committed to giving you accurate, tried-and-true information based on real-life experience—the kind you can only get from someone who's actually worked in the dirt, made the mistakes, and learned what truly works. I know how easy it is to waste money on the wrong plants or follow advice that doesn't hold up in the real world, so everything I share here is designed to help you succeed.
My love of the natural world began during my childhood in New York State's Hudson Valley. I have a Graduate Certificate in Landscape Design from George Washington University, and 12+ years of experience working as a designer, plant stylist, landscaping professional, and master gardener volunteer. My articles and garden design ideas draw on my experience with common landscaping plants and native plants of the Mid-Atlantic United States, but the design principles and plant insights are useful for gardeners across the U.S., Canada, and even parts of Europe.
I live, work, and garden in the Washington DC metro area, and my favorite thing to do is spend time with my husband, our children, and our beloved rescued pets (Tom who rules the roost, plus another cat named Boots and Spud the dog). I find inspiration for my work in the DC area's many beautiful public gardens, parks, trails, and outdoor spaces.
If you have a gardening question, please send it to me through the contact form. If there's a design problem or topic you'd like me to cover in a future article, please let me know! And be sure to follow me on Pinterest, where I'm always creating mood boards and sharing new garden ideas.
