So, you brought home a Kanmara Strong Pink hydrangea from the grocery store, or maybe you were gifted one, and now you’re wondering what exactly to do with it. Is it an indoor plant? Can you plant it outside? I’ve got you covered with the basics for keeping your new hydrangea happy.

What Is a Kanmara Strong Pink Hydrangea?
Kanmara Strong Pink is sold primarily as a potted or patio hydrangea, which is why you may find one for sale alongside indoor plants or receive one as a gift. But it is still a bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla), not a true houseplant.
You can enjoy it in its original pot on a porch or patio, or plant it in the garden if you live in a climate where bigleaf hydrangeas are hardy. If you plant it outdoors, choose a spot with morning sun or partial shade and protection from hot afternoon sun.
If you’re keeping your Kanmara hydrangea indoors temporarily, give it plenty of bright light and keep the soil consistently moist. Like other bigleaf hydrangeas, it will generally be happier outdoors long term than living permanently inside your house.
Is Kanmara Strong Pink an Indoor or Outdoor Hydrangea?
Kanmara Strong Pink is a bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla ‘H211904’) that is primarily grown and sold as a decorative potted hydrangea. You may find one displayed with indoor plants at a grocery store or garden center, or sold as a flowering plant gift.
Although you can enjoy a Kanmara hydrangea indoors while it is flowering, it is not a traditional houseplant. Think of it more as a flowering potted plant that can temporarily decorate a bright room indoors or spend the growing season outside on a shaded porch, patio, or balcony.
Kanmara hydrangeas sold as flowering gift plants may be forced to bloom early in the greenhouse so they can be sold in the retail market around holidays such as Easter and Mother’s Day. This means the plant may be flowering earlier than it naturally would if it were growing outdoors in the garden.
Can I Plant Kanmara Strong Pink Outside?
Yes, Kanmara Strong Pink is still a bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla), so it may be planted outdoors where growing conditions are suitable. However, Kanmara hydrangeas are marketed primarily as premium potted and patio plants, rather than as landscape hydrangeas.
If you decide to plant yours in the garden, treat it much as you would any other bigleaf hydrangea. Choose a sheltered location with moist, well-draining soil and protection from the hot afternoon sun. Keep in mind that a hydrangea grown and sold as a flowering potted plant may perform differently once transplanted into the landscape.

How to Care for Kanmara Strong Pink Hydrangea
Kanmara Strong Pink is particularly well suited to growing in a container. You can leave your hydrangea in its original nursery pot and slip it inside a decorative planter, or repot it into a slightly larger container with drainage holes and a good-quality potting mix.

Light
Give your Kanmara Strong Pink hydrangea plenty of bright, indirect light indoors. If you move it outside, place the container in a sheltered location with filtered light, partial shade, or gentle morning sun.
Avoid hot afternoon sun, which can cause the large leaves and flowers to wilt quickly, particularly when the plant is growing in a container.
Water
Keep the potting mix consistently moist, but don't allow the plant to sit in standing water. Potted hydrangeas can dry out surprisingly quickly, especially during warm weather.
If you've placed the original plastic nursery pot inside a decorative container, check after watering to make sure excess water hasn't collected at the bottom.
Soil
If you repot your Kanmara hydrangea, use a rich, well-draining potting mix and a container with drainage holes. Hydrangeas like consistent moisture, but their roots should not remain waterlogged.
Fertilizing
A potted Kanmara hydrangea can be fertilized during active growth with a fertilizer suitable for flowering shrubs or hydrangeas. Follow the product label rather than applying extra fertilizer in an attempt to encourage more blooms.
If you've just brought home a plant that is already covered in flowers, there's no need to immediately start fertilizing it.
Pruning
Kanmara Strong Pink does not need regular pruning to maintain its shape. Remove spent flowers as needed, but avoid cutting the plant back hard.
Like other traditional bigleaf hydrangeas, it forms flower buds on older stems, so unnecessary pruning can remove future flowers.

When grown in a pot, the size of Kanmara Strong Pink is limited by its container, helping it stay smaller and more compact. This makes it well suited for displaying on a porch, patio, or balcony.
